FINDS Hikes McHenry County

FINDS is holding a Hike McHenry County activity.


Simply hike 9 locations in McHenry County and document your hikes. You hike at your own pace and time when you can.

FINDS will throw a cool party this fall and celebrate the accomplishments of the hikers.


To participate,

  • Sign up using the link.
  • download the list of hiking locations in McHenry County that are on our list.
  • Hike at your own pace on your own time with your family or friends. No scheduling conflicts.
  • Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy as some of the locations have picnic tables.
  • Take a picture of yourself at the trailhead sign
  • Indicate the miles hiked at that location
  • Feel free to submit any really cool pictures you take along the way. Image submissions will be entered to possibly win some cool prizes at the party this fall.
  • Upload your submissions using this form so we can keep track of them
  • Upload pictures for the picture contest using this form


Note: Many of the locations also have geocaches so if you're into geocaching, this is a great time to further enjoy these hikes.

Brookdale (Woodstock)


Contains a total of 7.2 miles of trails. Also has fishing, picnicking.

Elizabeth Lake


Contains a total of 1.7 miles of trails

Fox Bluff


Contains a total of 2.5 miles of trails and beautiful shoreline along the Fox River

Located at: the corner of Cary-Algonquin & Cold Springs Roads in Cary

Hebron Trail


Contains multiple trails segments. Walk as much as you desire.

Park at the North Branch Conservation Area, 11500 North Keystone Road in Richmond or the Hebron Township parking lot near Seaman Road and the Hebron Trail Intersection (approximate address is 10207 Seaman Road, Hebron).

The Hollows


Contains a total of 4.75 miles of trails.

Located at: 3804 US Highway 14 (Northwest Highway - Route 14), Cary

Nippersink Canoe Base


Contains just under half a mile of trail

Located at: 400 E US Highway 12, Spring Grove

Stone Mill Trail


Contains 1.5 miles of trail

Located near Milky Way Park in Harvard or you can begin at the other end in Chemung on Maxon Rd
